Invented by a Chronic Snoozer

I am not a morning person. I’ve struggled my whole life to wake up on time. As a kid, I had my parents to drag me out of bed for school in the morning. But as an adult? I simply showed up late for everything: college classes, early shifts at work, not-so-early shifts at work… you name it. I would make grand plans to get my life together: to wake up early and hit the gym or actually cook a healthy breakfast, but would always end up rushing out the door after disabling the 7 alarms I’d set in my phone the night before.

I spent years trying different solutions. I’d set my phone across the room but would just hit snooze or turn it off and go back to sleep. I’d leave post-it notes by my phone reminding me why I had to be up early, but I don’t think my eyes were open wide enough to read them. I tried a handful of different products: loud, analog alarm clocks, wake up lights, alarm clocks with wheels. The result was always the same. I would get up, silence the alarm and crawl right back into bed.

Then I had an idea. What if there was an alarm clock that not only made me get out of bed, but away from bed?

Driven by Design

This idea followed me around for years. I just didn’t do anything with it. Not until late 2023. I was feeling unfulfilled in my corporate design job, so I started spending my nights and weekends researching the idea. I found that most products out there don’t actually get users away from their bed. And the few that do… aren’t very well designed.

I’m a design snob. I went to design school, I love Steve Jobs and my “attention to detail” might actually be a mental illness. It’s not good enough for a product to simply solve a problem. It has to look good. It has to feel good. It has to be a joy to use. None of the products that I tried ticked all of these boxes. So I decided that I was not only going to build the most effective alarm clock, but the most well-designed alarm clock.

That's where Lasso Alarm Clock was born. I partnered with some old colleagues from design school and we’ve spent the last year developing this first version, which we’re excited to put in real users’ hands. The icing on the cake?
